Choose the right service for your task

How process serving, court support, courier work and Remote Assistant fit different needs.

Maintained by AffidUpdated

Identify the kind of delivery

Process serving covers planned attempts to deliver prepared legal documents to the specified recipient, with a record of the outcome. Subpoena service also needs the appearance or production date and any instructed fee arrangements. A legal courier request is a pickup and handoff between locations; it is a separate task from service of process.

Separate the court tasks

Local court filing means in-person delivery of a prepared filing packet to the designated court. Courtesy copy delivery goes to the specified court or department and does not itself file the documents. Records retrieval concerns identified records that the court makes available. A request can include several of these steps when the sequence is clear. Name each destination, even when the tasks involve the same packet.

Describe the result you need

Remote Assistant is on-site support coordinated remotely: an inspection checklist, visit notes, photographs or local runner tasks. Stakeout for service is a defined period at an agreed location focused on attempting document service. Tell the team the task, location, timing and expected deliverables if the category is unclear. Questions about which legal forms to use belong with your legal adviser.
