Look at the work and the outcome
An update describes the information shared for a particular assignment. For process serving, an attempt and a completed serve are different outcomes. An unsuccessful attempt can still provide information for deciding what comes next. For court work, delivery of a packet and the court’s acceptance are separate events; read the result reported for the task.
Keep the update in context
Use the client workspace to review the shared updates and available deliverables for the correct matter. The information available depends on what the team has shared. The website preview is illustrative and should not be used to interpret the actual progress, timing or result of your assignment.
- Match the update to the relevant matter and the service that was requested.
- Read the reported action, outcome and any request for further information together.
- Ask the team to clarify any missing context before assuming another step has been arranged.
Ask about the next step
Refer to the particular update and explain the question you need answered. If an address, document packet or deadline has changed, tell the team so it can review the instructions. Further attempts, a different destination or additional work should be clarified within the scope of your request.
